Homemade Laundry Detergent
We have been using this recipe for homemade laundry detergent for about a year now and love it. Thanks to some of our friends for sharing. We have found it is a lot cheaper than buying detergent, clothes come out softer, and the pets blankets even smell better! Who knew going back to the basics could be so great.
Many of you have asked for this so feel free to use and pass along. We have front loaders but if you have the normal upright washers just add one more tablespoon of detergent.
Mix in a large container:
1/2 cup of Borax
1 cup of Washing Soda (we use Arm & Hammer)
4.5 oz bar of Soap grated (we use Ivory)
Mix together and use 1 Tablespoon per load
This will make about 3 cups of detergent.
You can also add in 3 cups of Oxy and use 2 Tablespoons per load
If you like to use a fabric softener, you can add in 1/4 cup of vinegar to your load and a dropper of scent. The vinegar smell evaporates don’t worry! We buy the Washing Soda from www.Soap.com because it is cheaper and easier to find. You can also get the rest of the ingredients through them too. They have a fast turn around for deliveries which is also nice. Other places are Amazon and local at Food Lion and Giant (look on top or bottom shelves). This recipe lasts us about 2 -3 months but we will see how that changes once Baby Woods gets here.
